Writing these notes a couple of days' early this week.
I usually write my week notes on Mondays (because my week runs Mon-Sun) - or Sundays if I have the time/energy.
But this week-end will be full-on travelling Bristol -> Christchurch -> Brighton -> Bristol, and Monday is fully booked (meetings in Wales), and so I'm doing them now (Friday afternoon)
Ideas, Subjects and Content
Something that's been niggling me for a while - and more so now that I'm writing more than ever - is how to manage it all. I have a lot of ideas that I jot down in the hopes that, one day, I can make them into something interesting - even if only to me (after all, the best way to truly understand something is to write about it). I have created and abandoned any number of processes and systems - in AirTable, Notion, and Tana, to name but a few - to help me keep track of ideas, subjects inspired by the ideas, and content written about the the subjects.
Not a CMS, but an SMS (Subject Management System).
So what did I do about it:
- I learned how to create Entity Relationship Diagrams in Mermaid.
- I talked at Claude, supplying the ERD and my struggles and desires.
- I came up with a brief for what such a system could be.
- I reached out to interested parties on Generalist World to see what other people are using / doing.
An ongoing project.
A day of meetings
Thursday was very atypical of my time recently. I had 4 meetings, all online. It's been a long while since I had days like that; I've been quite deliberate in limiting my meetings-per-day and honouring buffer / preparation / decompression time around meetings. But yesterday was an exception, and one I'll try not to repeat too soon, as by the end of the day my eyes were aching and I was so tired.
Client work
Two of the aforementioned meetings were client related. I had a meeting with the Marketing team who ran through the narrative for a pitch deck and we noted where we needed more input.
The second was with the founder to align our activities for next week - on defining & costing tooling and processes for a sales pipeline.
Writing
The latest Ode Map post - "Poem: 'Today / Tomorrow'"
The latest work-related post - "Strategy and Organisational Shape"
Work-adjacent
I re-organised my business folders and files. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it needed doing.
I wrote a Claude skill. Ditto
My viewing this last week has been indicative of my need to chill. I watched:
- "Good Cop/Bad Cop" - the whole series - over 2 evenings. Comedy police procedural. I really liked the two leads. Interesting story arc running throughout. Laughed more than I expected to.
- "Queens of Mystery". Just finished the second, and currently final, series. This is just silly. But in a good way. Another cop/detective comedy. This one doesn't take itself at all seriously and is a little absurdist. Good casting.
Listening highlights:
- Gary Numan "Savage" album. Looking for musical inspiration. Found it in "My Name is Ruin".
- Annie Hogan "Tongues in My Head" EP.
- Haute & Freddy "Big Disgrace" album. The remaining tracks were released this week. All v.g.
