Where mentoring sits & Embarrassing Brits

Weeknote #43 (23 February - 1 March 2026)

· Weeknote

Some weeks go by in the blink of an eye; others seem to drag on for a month.
This week has been one of the former - mostly, I think, because I was busy with new things.

Lots of research for new client - looking at niche sales platforms. Also working through business plan and pitch deck. Next week there will be some meetings with ops and marketing and we can start building out from there.

My LLM journey continues. Having started using Claude more, I've been migrating my OpenAI Codex projects to Claude Cowork. (They're document-based projects, not code-based.) I'm finding it much easier to work with Cowork, but I don't want to end up being beholden to a particular supplier, as much as I can help it. So I'm working through how to be as agnostic as possible.

I also started preparing for next week's Generalist World cohort. 1500 on the waiting list, and probably 150-200 new members will be onboarded over the next few weeks. I'm one of the community guides, so I'll be helping the newcomers find their way around. This is not a chore; joining GW is one the best decisions I have made in recent years and so being able to give something back seems only right.

  • The shift from creation (writing poems) to curation (picking a selection for submission for publication)
  • Opportunity cost in systems and the consequences of localised optimisation.

I watched the some of the Brit Awards on Saturday evening. As usual, it was embarrassing to watch. Why does arguably one of the most important showcases of British music have to be like this? It doesn't need 'comedy'. It doesn't need table walking and interviews with increasingly drunken guests. Just praise people, reward people and showcase the incredible talent. End of rant.
Anyway, I was fortunate enough to be watching when Rosalía performed 'Berghain'. The album version is incredible, but the live performance dialled it up to 11 (and then some). An extremely powerful, emotional performance. You must check it out (YouTube).

  • Lenka "Two (Expanded Edition)" album
  • Banshee "The Secrets to Altering Reality" album
  • Gorillaz "The Mountain" album. Latest album. The usual fair, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
  • Freshlyground "Nomvula" album
