Email migration and Messy dictation

Weeknote #39 (26 January - 1 February 2026)

· Weeknote

I think - for the first time since I started making these week notes public - I'm really not in the mood today. “The bounce has come out of my bungee”, as Wallace would say.

Anyway, with that in mind, here's what happened this week.

We're starting to think about GovCamp Cymru 2026. It’s early days, but there are some important things that we need to get sorted before we can kick off with the full core team in earnest.

I spent a couple of hours setting up an email account on one of my subdomains. I'm migrating away from a paid-for email anonymisation service, and I needed to do it without losing any emails or having any downtime. It was harder than I was expecting it to be. The DNS file for the root domain is now getting very large.

I also went down a rabbit hole setting up an OpenAI Codex on my MacBook. I've been wanting to find ways to integrate my somewhat haphazard file system into an LLM so that I can have better ‘conversations’ and insights. Once it was set up, it came immediately useful, and I've started creating READMEs in various folders for the LLM to understand the purpose and significance of various files. The next thing I need to do is integrate into it my various master documents for my business activities, and then hopefully turn it into an agent and get some efficiencies.
To be honest, all of that is secondary. The main reason I'm doing it is because I want to learn about it.

It was another good week on the writing front. I got a number of articles written and published.

  • Returning to the Margins” on the Ode map is another look at annotations and marginalia, and how they allow us to revisit a previous self.
  • Mentoring as Translation”, about how to be a better mentor.
  • Before Coherence” - a personal reflection about my use of voice-to-text services. (The majority of this week note was dictated.)

Only one thing of note on the watching front:

  • ‘In for a Murder’ [IMDB link] - Not at all good. Avoid.

Listening highlights:

  • Tinie Tempah & Alex Mills - “Energy” single. Latest from Mr. Tempah. Catchy, and a move towards more 'clubby' sounds.
  • Echo Juliet - “Abandon Reality” album. Very chill.
  • AURORA - “All My Demons Greeting Me As a Friend (Deluxe)” album. Lots of catchy stuff on here. Currently have ‘Conqueror’ on repeat in my head.
