Blogging (poetic) & Unconference (epic)

Weeknote #27 (3 - 9 November 2025)

November 10, 2025

It was a week of two halves. Mon-Thu morning was solo work; Thu afternoon - Sat was spent with others. (Sunday was a no-op.)

I published “Future of Work: Beyond delegation”; my thoughts on delegation in the age of solo working. You can read it on my work blog, or on LinkedIn.

I published “Salute: From PIP to Poem” on The Ode Map. After quite a while writing about creativity, I’ve returned with a post about writing about writing, documenting how I completed the poem “Salute”. I shared the initial, incomplete first draft some months ago.

On Thursday morning I (virtually) attended the first session of a portfolio careers lab, organised by Generalist World members. It was a great start, and I have some homework to do before session 2 in early December.

The main event of the week was GovCamp Cymru 2025, which took place on Friday, 7th November. I think we began our initial planning way back in February and it was amazing to see everyone enjoying the event that we created. We spent a couple of hours prepping the spaces in the Welsh Government offices on the Thursday afternoon, and then it was an early start for the final preparations on Friday morning. By all accounts, the event was a huge success and the spaces were buzzing with ideas and activity. We’ll be doing a retrospective once we’ve gathered feedback from camp makers, sponsors and attendees, and then we can draw a close to the event. And start it all again in 3 months time.

The session grid taking shape at GCCy 25.

Sunday was mainly spent asleep.

I didn’t watch much last week: A couple of episodes of the latest series of "The Witcher"; the latest episode of “Loot”; the new “Frankenstein” movie (good, but long).

On the listening front, just a few notables:

  • Airsine - “Sync / Slackers Delight” single. Very good.
  • Florence + the Machine - “Everybody Scream” album. I'll reserve judgement unil I've listened to it some more.
  • Attrition - “Second onslaught” album. Reissued recently with extra tracks recorded live.
  • Raven Numan - “In this Twighlight” single. Sounding (slightly) less like her dad.
  • Ely Eira - “The Legend of Ely” album. Well, this is just amazing.
