This week I’ve been thinking more about marketing and branding (of myself and my business).
To that end, I’ve been creating brand guides in Canva for:
- My personal brand
- The Limited company I charge out my services through (Mantage Ltd.)
- My creative writing blog (The Ode Map)
GovCamp Cymru is less than a month away, so I’ve been doubling down on the governance. I re-visited a dependency map I did for the even a couple of years ago and updated it based on what’s new this year, along with specifics due to location, etc.
I prefer to manage this with a dependency map (almost an outcomes map), rather than a Gantt chart or similar, where it’s too easy to be drawn into having to put dates on things.
I currently keep this map in OmniGraffle, which isn’t very sharing-friendly, so I did a bit of research and I think that Kumu is going to be the better tool for the future. I can’t afford the time to get up to speed with that and and transfer everything into it right now, so this’ll be an ‘at my leisure’ activity once the GovCamp is over.
I’m very happy to be a beta tester (just one of many) for Matt Ballantine & Nick Drage’s “Random - The Book”. I’ve received my 5 chapters (randomly selected, naturally) to review and feedback on. I’ve had a quick, first read through them and they are interesting, insightful and stimulating. More to follow.
I’ve kicked off Q4 for myself and my clients - not a lot to report, there. But in the process of planning and putting all the instrumentation in place over the last couple of weeks, and based on concerns or queries from clients, I’ve identified some possible services I can provide this side of Christmas for organisations trying desperately to tie up this year on a plus, and wanting to be fully prepared for next year.Working on some copy, etc. for all that (and hence the incentive to review my marketing assets).
On the more creative, 'writing about writing' front, I published a couple of posts on The Ode Map:
It would seem that I didn’t watch that much this week. That said, I did catch “Taken by the Flood” (Poirot), which is (to me) very confusing, as a lot of characters (all of the same extended family) are introduced in quick succession at the start. Very difficult to keep track of who's who.
And I went out of my way to re-register with Channel 5 so I could watch the first episode of “Murder before Evensong”, written by the Reverend Richard Cole. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and yet it was exactly how I expected it to be. A bit of cognitive dissonance watching Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis) play a vicar.
I listened to:
- The new Sparks EP “Madder!”
- Stealing Sheep “GLO” & “U F33L M3 - EP”
- Madilyn Mei “To Exist with You” & “Promise you won’t scream - EP”
- M.I.A. “Kala”
- EERA “I’ll stop when I’m done”
- Balearic Sabbath “Planet C”
